Reviews of the Anne Valérie Hash and Isabel Marant Paris Fashion shows

Anne Valérie Hashhas been honing her vision of melding masculine tailoring to the female form for years now. This season she took on one of the staples of a man’s wardrobe: the tuxedo.

“Smoking Hash,” Mrs. Hash said with a coy smile before the show, making a play on words with the French word for tuxedo and her own last name.

But there was no need for a chemically induced high to make this collection feel special. Using a clever concept of combining two different fabrics in starkly divergent shades to create her tuxedo jackets, the designer was able to give the impression that the jackets had somehow slipped off the shoulders.

Pairing them with softly draped jodhpur pants and thick platform shoes helped to soften the silhouette, as did cutting her masculine designs from feminine fabrics like chiffon, taffeta and satin.
